South Asia Retreat?
I'm interested in connecting with UCSF researchers who work in India, but we never seem to be at the same place at the same time!
We would like to encourage collaboration! I hope this page helps, and be sure to find other researchers by looking at the work they do. Would like to organize a larger "retreat day" later in the year.
Collaboration around specimens
My research in India focused on viral identification, gastroenteritis and respiratory outbreak. Moving specimens is costly and time consuming! Has anyone set up a good system?
Crowdfunding in India
I'm interested in sustainable health care delivery, and am using crowdfunding to build out a physical rehab center in India. Has anyone else used crowdfunding in India?
I know of a few more, will post links soon!
Tuberculosis Standards in India
Through the Curry International TB center, we publish the International TB Standards to promote the development of national tuberculosis programmes in India, emphasising public/private partnerships.
_First responders in India
_First responder and emergency care is highly dependent on location. I have been looking at the situation in Chennai, India, and how it impacts outcomes, particularly in cardiac care.
Join our team!
_We have created a community-based cohort of 900 South Asians in the US from two clinical sites called the MASALA study (Mediators of Atherosclerosis in South Asians Living in America). We have begun collaborations with Indian investigators to compare rates of CVD risk factors between the US and India/Pakistan. I am looking for others interested in joining our team.
Co-ordinating travel to Vietnam & India
I know several researchers are traveling to Aravind hospitals, perhaps we could co-ordinate our efforts? Just having a UCSF "envoy" stop and say hello does a lot to cement the personal relationships (and research).
The moderator is working to develop a private travel sharing site for Global Health, is anyone else interested?
Outcomes and HIV stigma: Thailand
HIV stigma impacts pediatric and maternal transmission care in ways that are culture specific.
Capacity building for research
Vietnamese researchers have been so excited by exposure to bio-statistical methodologies. Does anyone know of a good resource to direct them to?
Pediatrics and Myanmar
The Health Systems Initiative focuses on public/private partnerships as they intersect with malaria, diarrhea and pneumonia care and pediatrics. Myanmar is in the midst of amazing changes. I wonder if any UCSF researchers are interested in how these changes will affect health outcomes.
Stigma in Health Access India & China
_HIV stigma affects the way individuals engage institutions as well as people. The way that Indian MSM deal with this stigma is different that those in China. Finding ways to engage health care most effectively is imperative in both cases!
